Methodologies Utilised
Track Sawing

Floor Sawing
Remote Demolition
Diamond Drilling

EDD engaged with Thames Tideway back in 2017 and to date are still carrying out specialised Demolition works across all sections of this very important Infrastructure project.

Date: Aug 2016 – Nov 2018

EDD carried out several key concrete removal works which consisted of Diamond Stitch Drilling, Track Sawing and Floor sawing works to allow the main enabling works to continue for each client mentioned above. These methods were used to allow our client to construct each tunnelling site ensuring works progressed on time while having minimal impact on the surrounding areas.

Date: Dec 2018 – Mar 2020

TMB launch portal works

FLO Kirtling Street

In December 2018 EDD had the task of creating 2nr 10-meter diameter openings through 1.2m deep rein-forced concrete D-Walls to allow the launch of the 2 main TBM’s which constructed the main tunnel running under the river Thames from West to East.

EDD worked on a 24hr shift pattern completing all works well within the program dates, these works consisted of 835 Diamond Drilling holes to a depth of 1.2m’s allowing our client to break through the constructed D-Wall to launch both TMB’s on time.

D-Wall removal Works

CVB Deptford, Greenwich pumping Station, Earl Pumping Station. Chambers Wharf and King Edwards Memorial Park.

From November 2017 until April 2022 EDD were approached by our client CVB on several their Tideway East sites to remove the top of their D-Walls for the new capping beam construction works. EDD came up with the method of Wire Sawing the concrete D-Wall panels both horizontally and vertically for removal off site by others. This method proved to be much quicker than the traditional breaking methods, it allowed other trades to work in situ with minimal interference.

Main Tunnel Connection Break Throughs:

FLO Cremorne Wharf, Chelsea Embankment, Heathwall Pumping Station, FalconBrook Pumping Station, Albert Embankment and Victoria Embankment.

Throughout 2021 EDD were tasked with creating connection openings from the newly constructed main sewer to newly constructed Pumping stations. This work was carefully planned by the EDD team to allow the concrete segments to be removed without damaging the Tideway tunnel.

EDD Diamond Stitch drilled the first segment for FLO to pull it our safely using the Block and Tackle method. After this segment was removed EDD then used the Wire Sawing method to cut the perimeter of the other segments for removal by FLO.

This method proved very successful in completing the opening to profile required by our client without any repairs the main tunnel. Works were also completed well within the program requirements.
